Here are some diet culture words to use and what ones you should avoid.
Let’s take a minute to talk about the use of good vs. bad food. This can create a negative connection with food quite quickly and it can start at a very young age. Instead of saying something is good you can say “that’s such a great choice it has so many many great nutrients for your body.” Even if the choice is something that is considered as a “bad” choice wording it something like “that looks so delicious and satisfying” is a great way to talk about it.
The goal is to really enjoy food and have a strong connection with our bodies. We can work towards things such as intuitive eating, mindful eating and body kindness and allow our body’s natural hunger and satisfaction cues to kick in rather than
using external cues to help guide our food decisions.
